DAIRY DAYS 2026
for Plum Creek Art Center/Connie Mohr Gallery
June 4th began our town's yearly celebration of Dairy Day.
This was year 102.
Starting at 4 pm, before the Street Sports for the kids, the Art Center had a Picasso cow on display in the F-S Middle School (due to inclement weather). That poor cow waw primarily 'white' with black lines and numbers identifying what color the area should be painted. The children of the community were invited to come and make her a
'picture perfect Picasso cow.
Maybe next year, the kids will get to work on the Picasso cow again.
On June 5th, the Art Center had a tent standing at the Northwest corner of South Washington Ave and Railroad St.
We had the "itty bitty" Canvas Creations on display. This experiment was a great success by all the artists that participated. Most of the artists encouraged us to do this again next year. They had fun coming up with ideas and creating them!

Artists were given a 3"x3" canvas, watercolors & brush. They were given simple instructions to follow: make something following these guidelines:
- Artwork must be family friendly
- Must be able to be displayed flat against a wall
- Artwork must be your own 'original' creation
- No perishable items or materials that may shed, flake or fall off

Then from 4-6pm at our tent area, we had a caricature artist, Jim Winter-Johnson, Winona, MN available for the Dairy Day attendees to sit and have a "SILLY" portrait drawn by him. This will be a great rememberance piece for those that had Jim draw you and/or the kids!!
Additionally,
During the day on June 5th at the Plum Creek Art Center/Connie Mohr Gallery, a watercolor painting by Connie Mohr, was on display and all were encouraged to stop at the Art Center and register to win the painting. The winner's name was drawn and our winner was Dr. Nick Sanford, New Hampton.
Congratulations Dr. Sanford!!

Thanks You!!!!

EXHIBITS
Our next exhibit is scheduled from September 1, 2026 to the middle of November 2026. Our artist reception is on September 20th, 1-3pm. Our featured artist is Ms Ann Olsson from Waterloo, IA with her 'Alphabet Animals'. She has a game for the kids (or the kids at heart) featureing the 'Alphabet Animals'. How many animals can you name?
Keep checking back here for news and/or check our 'Upcoming Events' page.
The 'Artist Reception' for Ms Chaveevah (aka Carol Ferguson) was a success. There was a large group of attendees from Waterloo and the surrounding area. Of course, there was a refreshment table with coffee, lemonade, bars, cookies and Gluten free cookies. It was a cold and windy day, but attendees braved the weather.
Ms Chaveevah was very happy with the turnout of people to meet and greet and so were we, from the art center.
Thank You!! to all who helped make this successful.
Go to 'Events of 2026' for pictures of Ms Chaveevah's exhibit.
PLAYING OR WORKING?
Hard at work at a Stained Glass Flower Class -
Instructor Shari Harbert

Earlier this year we were notified by Shari's husband, that Shari had passed away while they were in Florida, being snowbirds. Shari has been missed by a couple of us 'stained glass' geeks and she will continue to be missed.

Our 2nd Community Art Project
The Railroad Sculpture
by Dale Merrill is on display in Fredericksburg's 'Railroad Park' on the west end of Main Street, before the railroad track bump.

Initially, the railroad that traveled through Fredericksburg, was integral to the town's existence. There were many items (to include people) that went from Fredericksburg to other towns on the railroad line and vice versa.

Our 3rd Community Art Project is in our minds...
A mural at the West End of town...
Would you like to be a part of the excitement? We have the 'Bubble Child' to welcome visitors to Fredericksburg coming from the East. Now we want to welcome our other visitors to Fredericksburg coming from the West. We 'had' a spot to build the foundation for the mural, but the owners have changed their minds, as is their right to do.
Become a donor towards the reality of the project, property or monetary. The sooner we come up with a place for it, the sooner it will become reality.
Check back here for updates on our newest project!
