Tom Farrell - Hawkeye, IA

I served and retired from the military (Army-1972 to 1992). In 2014, I officially moved back to Iowa to be with family. My wife and I currently live between Waucoma & Hawkeye.

My passion has been to use the resources from the farm (i.e. trees) for lumber to feed my woodworking hobby (22 Years). I just had another 3000+ board feet sawn. It seems to air dry for 5 -7 years before I can get to it and build furniture and other projects.

In 2014 we established Farrell’s Oak Creek Estate, LLC. We now run a small campground with electricity, modern showers and laundry. Additionally, the business sponsors a 5/10 KM Trail Run/Walk on the 1st Saturday in October. Most of my time and energy is spent on upkeep of grounds, equipment and woodworking which keep me busy.

Ralph Schultz - Fredericksburg, IA

I have been a Fredericksburg resident since 1971.  I have always enjoyed working with my hands, first with cars, then eventually decided to try to add onto my house. That work made me see how much working with wood meant to me.

For many years, I made furniture for my wife, and she enjoyed making crafts so soon I was making items for her and expanded my attention to include lathe work.

I have really enjoyed the challenge of wood turning. Now I try to expand my talents with many different vases, bowls and anything else that challenges me.
